A Rotational Crop for Grass Seed
In 1985 a small group of Oregon grass seed famers investigated various rotational crops that would provide sustainable, long-term soil health and sustain grass crop quality. Through this investigation, a rotational crop that worked well was meadowfoam. This beautiful plant produces flowers whose seeds contain a natural oil. This oil functions as a wonderfully stable botanical emollient for the personal care and cosmetic industry.
Environmentally-Friendly
Meadowfoam provides significant environmental advantages. Grass seed farmers plant meadowfoam as a crop rotation to help mitigate soil disease and ease the burden of weeds on a specific piece of land. Many of the farms use no-till planting techniques that reduce diesel fuel usage and minimize unavoidable carbon emissions. Meadowfoam is planted in both the fall and spring and is harvested in the early summer. Because Oregon has abundant annual rainfall, irrigation is not required, making the Willamette Valley the ideal environment to grow healthy meadowfoam.
Over the last 35 years, these few Oregon farmers were joined by over 45 other farmers to create OMG, A Cooperative. OMG provides their unique natural oil to a global cosmetic industry. The farms are located in the Willamette Valley south of Portland Oregon, USA. Close to 90% of the worlds Meadowfoam Seed Oil supply comes from this region.
A Highly Stable Natural Oil
This luxurious oil provides significant oxidative stability. Other oils used in the cosmetic industry provide a fraction of this stability. Because of it’s stability, Meadowfoam Seed Oil can be blended with other popular oils to extend their shelf life providing exceptional benefit to formulators creating cosmetic products.
Many of the world’s leading cosmetic manufacturers use this unique oil in products for lotions, haircare, cleansing oils and moisturizers.
For those individuals that are looking for natural, healthy sustainable products, look for the visionary brands that use Meadowfoam Seed Oil.
